Beamer recognized for attendance

Special to The Hays Daily News

Kansas Speaker of the House of Representatives Melvin Neufeld, R-Ingalls, congratulated Rep. Virginia Beamer, R-Oakley, Thursday on her 100 percent attendance record during the 2008 legislative session.

"Rep. Beamer showed her commitment to work hard for her district this session by not missing a single day the Kansas House gavelled in to work. Not many legislators can point to that achievement," Neufeld said.

The House recorded nearly 400 votes on bills, amendments and resolutions during the 90-day session. Beamer missed just four votes -- giving her a near perfect voting record as well.

"My constituents in the 118th District elected me to represent them. I think it wise to be in attendance and voting whenever possible. It is very important, and my guess is my constituents think so as well," Beamer said.

The Oakley representative serves the 118th House District, which includes the counties of Wallace, Logan, Gove, Trego, Wichita, Lane, Rush and part of Ness County, as well as the cities of Sharon Springs, Wallace, Russell Springs, Winona, Grinnell, Gove, Collyer, WaKeeney, La Crosse, Rush Center, Ransom, Oakley, Bazine, Utica, Dighton, Leoti, Healy, Otis, McCracken, Quinter, Grainfield, Bison, and Liebenthal.

She is on the House Appropriations, General Government Budget and the Elections and Governmental Organization Committees, as well as the Joint Committee on Special Claims Against the State.
