Area Knights of Columbus agent Justin "J.J." Deges attended several conferences and conventions in 2013 which provided him both the opportunity for continuing education and relationship building for the clients he represents and serves. These include the 2013 KFIC-Kansas Fraternal Insurance Counselor state meeting in Salina on March 4; the 2013 Kansas Knights of Columbus state convention in Olathe from May 3 to 5; the 2013 NAFIC-National Association of Fraternal Insurance Counselors national convention in Savannah, Ga., from May 5 to 8; the 2013 Million Dollar Round Table international conference in Philadelphia from June 9 to 12; the 2013 Supreme Knights of Columbus international convention in San Antonio from Aug. 5  to 8; and the 2013 regional Knights of Columbus sales conference in Kansas City on Aug. 22 to 24.  Deges serves the IHM-Hays, FHSU-Hays, Plainville, Damar, Hill City, St. Peter, Wakeeney, New Almelo, Leoville and Selden councils.

Four members of the College of Business and Entrepreneurship faculty at Fort Hays State University have published an article in the Southwest Business Administration Journal on student use of social media. "New Media Communication Preferences" was written by Mark Bannister, dean of the College of Business and Entrepreneurship; Wally Guyot, professor of management and marketing; Robert Meier, professor of informatics; and James "Skip" Ward, assistant professor of management and marketing. "New Media Communication Preferences," in Ward's words, "examines social media communication preferences of students enrolled in the College of Business and Entrepreneurship." The authors surveyed students enrolled in the college and found students preferred smart phones, YouTube and Facebook for internal communications. The Southwest Business Administration Journal, affiliated with Texas Southern University in Houston, provides a forum for enhancing teaching and learning within the business administration field.

Jeremy Brown, McDonald's of South Hays team member, has been promoted to the position of swing manager.  Brown became a part of the South Hays team Nov. 28, 2012, and was promoted to this new position Dec. 1.

McDonald's of North Hays and South Hays announced the November crew member of the month awards. The recipients are Josh Adcock, North Hays, and Elizabeth Wendel, South Hays. Adcock has been a part of McDonald's of North Hays since July 9. He was selected due to his strong work ethic, work pride, efficiency, strong customer service skills, motivation, punctuality, helpfulness, initiative, personality, positive attitude, team work skills and friendliness. Wendel has been a part of McDonald's of South Hays since Aug. 22. She was selected due to her strong work ethic, friendliness, motivation, initiative, efficiency, helpfulness, personality, punctuality, reliability, positive attitude and team work abilities.
