Woman's death was self-inflicted

The death of a missing Fort Hays State University student has been determined to be the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Ellis County Undersheriff Bruce Hertel.

The body of 25-year-old Ivone "Yossett" Martinez, Garden City, was discovered Saturday morning near the Big Creek bridge along U.S. Highway 183 Bypass at the south edge of Hays.

A missing person alert had been issued for Martinez on Friday, after authorities became concerned about her welfare.

After learning Martinez might have been in the Frontier Park area, authorities launched a search Saturday morning and discovered her body soon after the search was initiated.
