Public invited to pitch reserve center ideas

It's possible the city commission could let the public decide how to best use the vacant Army Reserve Center, located at 101 Main.

Commissioners already have heard several suggestions about how to use the city-owned facility, which has stood empty since the Army Reserve Center relocated in 2006.

"At least it will give a fair opportunity to hear all those proposals that might be out there. ... We're pretending we have all the best ideas," Commissioner Troy Hickman said. "Somebody else might be out there who has a really great idea for it, and we should take that into consideration."

Specifications for the plan, such as the deadline to submit proposals and what they need to include, will be discussed at next week's meeting.
