Warming trend in sight after frigid Monday

By MIKE CORN

After a bone-chilling Monday morning, temperatures are on the way back up.

Monday's low was the coldest reading since Feb. 10, 2011, when the overnight low dropped to 5 below zero, the last time Hays has seen a below-zero reading.

Conditions are remaining dry as well.

Monday's low dropped to 3 degrees at the Kansas State University Agricultural Research Center, sharply lower than this morning's low of 15 degrees.

Goodland reached a low of zero Monday night.

The temperature in Hays today is expected to reach 45 degrees, climbing as the week continues.

The three-month temperature forecast for Hays is essentially too close to call, leaning slightly to near normal.

Both Goodland and Dodge City are leaning to be above normal in terms of temperature for the December through February forecast.
