Congressional Arts Competition open to students in First District
Special to The Hays Daily News
Entries are now being accepted for the 2010 Congressional Arts Competition. All high school students in the First Congressional District are encouraged to participate in this competition. The winning artwork will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.
"I look forward to the Congressional Arts Competition each year," said Rep. Jerry Moran. "The artistic abilities of young Kansans always amaze me, and this is a unique opportunity to showcase their talents to the members of the U.S. House of Representatives and thousands of Americans who visit the U.S. Capitol each year."
The Dodge City Area Arts Council will host the 2010 competition at the Carnegie Center for the Arts. This year's competition is divided into seven categories: paintings, drawings, collage, prints, mixed media, computer generated art and photography. All submissions must be received from noon to 5 p.m. between April 6 and April 9 at the Carnegie Center for the Arts. Awards will be given in each category and will be announced by Moran at a reception at 2:30 p.m. April 18 at the Carnegie Center for the Arts in Dodge City.
For more information, interested students and art teachers can contact Moran's Hays district office at (785) 628-6401. Competition guidelines can also be found at www.jerrymoran.house.gov.
