Tiger baseball splits with NE Okla.

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. -- The Fort Hays State University baseball team split its doubleheader with Northeastern State University on Saturday.

The Tigers fell 9-4 in Game 1 but responded with a 19-8 victory in Game 2.

FHSU moved to 21-16 and 17-15 in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Both teams' bats were hot in the doubleheader, as they combined for 49 hits in both games.

In Game 1, FHSU had 10 hits to Northeastern's 11, but the Riverhawks (20-17, 20-17 MIAA) were hitting for power. NSU collected home runs from first baseman Kyle Singleton and designated hitter Jordan Dallalio and three doubles.

FHSU's starting pitcher Alex Ellison (2-6) picked up the loss in the opener. He allowed nine runs, seven earned, on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three in 3.2 innings pitched.

FHSU shortstop Sam Thornton, third baseman Kelton Rule and second baseman Chris Santoscoy each finished with two hits.

The Tigers found their power in the second game.

FHSU out hit the Riverhawks 18 to 10. The Tigers hit five doubles to NSU's four, and each team blasted four home runs.

Rule was prolific in Game 2, hitting 4 of 4 and compiling five RBIs, four runs scored and a home run.

Left fielder Clayton Garland hit 4 of 5 with an RBI and four runs scored, and first baseman Ryan Busboom finished 4 of 6 with five RBIs, three runs scored and a home run.

Designated hitter Horace Johnson and catcher Jay Sanders each homered as well. Tayler Davis (6-2 ) received the win. He lasted seven innings and allowed eight runs, all earned, on 10 hits and a walk while striking out five.
