FHSU business college awards more than $200K in scholarships

More than $200,000 in financial assistance -- scholarships and graduate fellowships -- were awarded at the annual scholarship award ceremony of Fort Hays State University's College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

Approximately 250 donors, students, parents and faculty attended the event. Awards included 113 scholarships amounting to roughly $93,000 and 17 full-time graduate fellowships totaling approximately $119,000.

Students include:

Bazine: Bryanda Martinez-Levario, sophomore, received a $1,000 Insurance Planning Inc. Scholarship. She is a 2011 graduate of Western Plains High School.

Colby: Cade Carter, senior, received a $1,000 Creta Lois Sproul Scholarship and a $700 Commerce Bank Scholarship. He is a 2009 graduate of Colby High School. Lindsey Wilson, senior, received a $1,000 Kansas Farm Credit Services Scholarship and a Full Year Tuition Andrew Gottschalk Economics-Finance Scholarship. She is a 2009 graduate of Colby High School.

Ellis: Kyle Fox, junior, received a $500 Business Education Departmental Scholarship. He is a 2010 graduate of Ellis High School.

Goodland: Sloan Ruhs, sophomore, received a $1,000 Creta Lois Sproul Scholarship and a $500 Kansas I-70 Association Tourism and Hospitality Scholarship. He is a 2012 graduate of Goodland High School.

Grainfield: Nicole Zimmerman, junior, received a $1,000 Creta Lois Sproul Scholarship. She is a 2010 graduate of Wheatland High School.

Grinnell: Eric Schoendaler, senior, received a $500 Business Education Departmental Scholarship. He is a 2010 graduate of Wheatland High School.

Hays: John Booze, special student, received a $1,000 High Plains Farm Credit Scholarship and a $1,000 Lindberg, Vogel, Pierce, Faris Accounting Scholarship. Sarah Disney, senior, received a $500 Emprise Bank/Finance Scholarship. She is a 2009 graduate of Hays High School. David Guiboa, senior, received a $500 Lowen Corporation Scholarship. Samantha Hardwick, senior, received a $2,250 Kansas CPA Undergraduate Scholarship and a $1,000 Brungardt Hower Ward Elliott and Pfeifer Scholarship. She is a 2010 graduate of Hays High School. Jered Horn, freshman, received a $500 Nex-Tech/Rural Telephone Scholarship. Helen Kasra, senior, received a $700 Commerce Bank Scholarship. She is a 2010 graduate of Hays High School. Ashley (Werth) Kennedy, Hays senior, received a $500 William E. Lusk Scholarship. She is a 2006 graduate of Hays High School. Kendra Madron, senior, received a $1,000 KOCH Discovery Scholarship and a $500 Adams Brown Beran and Ball Scholarship. Jason Mayers, senior, received a $1,000 BKD Accounting Scholarship and a $700 Commerce Bank Scholarship. He is a 2009 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School. Jordan Niernberger, junior, received a $500 Deana G. Elston-Rupp Scholarship and a $500 Management Development Center Scholarship. He is a 2010 graduate of Hays High School. Chiagoziem "Alex" Okeke, junior, received a $500 College of Business and Entrepreneurship Scholarship. Mina Riazi-Kermani, junior, received a $500 Cecil Jr. and Betty E. Calvert Endowed Business Scholarship. She is a 2010 graduate of Hays High School. Joshua Smith, senior, received a $550 Northwest Kansas Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Scholarship and a $250 Matthew Shamberger Memorial Scholarship. Jessie Steffen, junior, received a $1,000 Chapter 1H PEO Scholarship and a William E. Lusk Fall 2013 Tuition Scholarship. She is a 2010 graduate of Hays High School. Jeffrey Stramel, senior, received a $500 Business Education Departmental Scholarship. He is a 2008 graduate of Thomas More Prep-Marian High School.

Hill City: Collin Pfeifer, sophomore, received a $1,000 Insurance Planning Inc. Scholarship and a $500 Jack and Peggy Heather Scholarship. He is a 2012 graduate of Hill City High School.

Hoxie: Trisha Goetz, graduate student, received a $2,500 Kansas CPA Graduate Scholarship and a graduate teaching assistantship of 9 credit hours tuition and a $3,500 per semester stipend. She is a 2009 graduate of Hoxie High School.

La Crosse: Thomas Moeder, junior, received a $1,000 Mapes and Miller CPA Scholarship and a $800 Arthur E. Andersen Scholarship. He is a 2010 graduate of La Crosse High School.

Morland: Michael Leibold, graduate student, received a graduate teaching assistantship in China. This award includes nine credit hours tuition, a $3,500 per semester stipend, airfare, room and board.

Ness City: Kyle Calvin, senior, received a $1,500 Ameriprise Financial Planning Scholarship. He is a 2010 graduate of Ness City High School.

Park: Austin Zerr, junior, received a $1,200 Peier Family Scholarship and a $1,000 Emprise Bank/Norman and Ann Jeter Scholarship. He is a 2010 Quinter High School graduate.

Rexford: Aubrey Hodges, senior, received a $1,000 Creta Lois Sproul Scholarship. She is a 1996 graduate of Colby High School.

Russell: Rex Soldan, senior, received a $500 Robert S. and Elizabeth W. Armstrong Scholarship. He is a 2008 graduate of Russell High School.

St. Francis: Matthew Whitmore, senior, received a $1,000 David L. Meckenstock Scholarship. He is a 2009 graduate of St. Francis Community High School.

Stockton: Caleb Kriley, senior, received a $1,000 Creta Lois Sproul Scholarship. He is a 2008 graduate of Stockton High School.

Utica: Eric Dysinger, junior, received a $500 Management and Marketing Departmental Scholarship. She is a 2010 graduate of Western Plains High School. Allison Young, sophomore, received a $500 College of Business and Entrepreneurship Scholarship. She is a 2011 Ness City High School graduate.

Victoria: Kasandra Huser, senior, received a $550 Northwest Kansas Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors Scholarship. She is a 2009 graduate of Victoria High School. Courtney Kanzenbach, senior, received a $1,000 Robert S. and Elizabeth W. Armstrong Scholarship. She is a 2009 Hays High School graduate. Cody Scheck, sophomore, received a $750 Kennedy and Coe Scholarship. He is a 2011 graduate of Victoria High School.
