City officials voice concern over air service

At Thursday's Hays City Commission meeting, some city officials expressed concern about the performance of Great Lakes Airlines at the Hays Regional Airport.
According to data collected by the Hays Fire Department, an average of 65 percent of 224 flights arrived and departed on time during the month of October. On-time is considered less than 30 minutes late.
Commissioner Henry Schwaller IV addressed the issue at last week's meeting, observing that mid-day flights frequently arrive and depart behind schedule.
"It's easy to make up for that, because the late flight comes in and can bring them in and out," Schwaller said. "I think we're getting whipsawed, and I don't like it."
City Manager Toby Dougherty said city staff remains in communication with the airline, and noted the company's on-time report is not far below its industry standard.
"I can tell you that we continually voice our complaints," Dougherty said Thursday. "Whenever we experience a rash of late flights, we make our opinion known that we're not happy with it."
