World tour has Globetrotters dribbling to Hays

Courtside seating is sold out. But folks wanting to get up close and personal with the Harlem Globetrotters basketball team still can do so.

The Globetrotters' 2013 "You Write the Rules" World Tour is coming to Fort Hays State University's Gross Memorial Coliseum for a 7 p.m. performance Jan. 23.

Brad Haynes, associate athletic director, said in addition to the courtside seating being full, the lower level seating with chair backs also is filling up, but there still are some available for purchase.

Those lower level chairback tickets are $36 each, while seats in the lower level ends and upper level sides are $28, and the upper level corners and ends are $21.

People with a game ticket also can purchase a "Magic Pass" ticket that will allow them to spend time on the court before the game, shooting and trying out ball tricks with the Globetrotters. The players also will be giving out autographs and be available for photo opportunities for a half hour from 5:30 to 6. Soft soled shoes must be worn on the court.

The Globetrotters are returning to Hays for the second time in three years. They also performed at GMC in 2010.

"They were happy with the response they got and happy with the way things were run here in the coliseum," Haynes said. "So when it worked out to bring them back through again when they were in the area, and our (Tiger) basketball teams weren't in town, it was a natural thing.

"We've sold pretty good numbers. We'll be at least as good as we were last time."

Fans can vote for their "favorite, craziest rule" at beforehand, then see the winning rules live when the Globetrotters take the floor.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting the FHSU athletics website at and clicking on the Globetrotters link on the right side.

Fort Hays students can receive a $5 discount on a ticket by bringing their ID card to the athletic office in Cunningham Hall 138 or by calling (785) 628-4050.
