Indians win 5A Liberal regional

LIBERAL -- The Hays High School boys' golf team cruised to a regional championship Monday at Willow Tree Golf Course.

The Indians won the Class 5A regional meet with a team score of 311, earning its fifth straight trip to state.

Salina Central and Goddard-Eisenhower tied with 317, but Central took second based on each team's fifth man.

Hays High senior Ryan Unruh ran away with the individual regional crown shooting a 71 -- six strokes better than second place.

Junior Lane Clark took fifth with a 78, and sophomore Nathan Romme was eighth with an 80. Junior Kaden Beilman rounded out the team score, shooting an 82.

Freshman Payton Ruder and sophomore Cash Hobson also competed and recorded scores of 85 and 86, respectively.

The 5A state tournament is scheduled for Monday in Overland Park at Brookridge Golf and Fitness.
