HHS swimmers fourth in Topeka

TOPEKA -- The Hays High School boys' swimming team finished fourth at the Topeka West swim meet.

The Indians scored 263 points. Washburn Rural won with 567. Topeka-Hayden and Topeka-Seaman were second and third with 314 and 310, respectively.

Senior Blake Mathews finished second in the 100-yard freestyle and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle in 51.86 seconds and one minute, 57.67 seconds.

Senior Derek Drees were fourth and fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly in 23.67 seconds and 1:00.72, respectively.

Sophomore Ben Rajewski placed third in the 500-yard freestyle in 6:10.15.

Mathews and Drees also were members of the third-place 400-yard freestyle relay (3:47.64) and fourth-place 200-yard medley relay (1:57.30).

Joining them on the 400 freestyle relay were sophomore Morgan Mathews and senior Steven Vancil, and the 200 medley relay also was composed of juniors Boone Pruter and Austin Chambers.
