No. 1 doubles wins WAC for Hays High

GREAT BEND -- The Hays High School boys' tennis team walked away with one WAC championship Monday at the Western Athletics Conference Tournament in Great Bend.
Seniors Blake McClung and Hunter Wilkens (16-8) tied for first in No. 1 doubles, going 3-1. They tied with a team from Garden City and Great bend, and in the case of a three-way tie, all three become co-champions.
The Hays High duo lost to Great Bend 8-5 in their first match and defeated Garden City 8-7 (7-2) in their final match to create the tie.
Junior Cody Brown (17-7) finished second in No. 2 singles, going 3-1.
Senior Bryce McClung (11-10) went 2-2 in No. 1 singles and finished third, and junior Nick Glassman and freshman Andrew McGinnis (2-2) finished 2-2 in third place in No. 2 doubles.
The Indians finished third out of five teams with 10 points.
Hays High's Class 5A Regional Tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Friday in Newton.
