HHS boys No. 1 in Class 5A

The Hays High School boys’ basketball team, fresh off a first-place finish at the Dodge City Tournament of Champions, is the new No. 1 team in Class 5A in today's Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll.

The Indians entered the tournament No. 3 in 5A before beating Class 6A Hutchinson, Manhattan and Wichita East during a three-day stretch. Wichita East, which Hays High beat 61-51 in the championship game Saturday night, had been No. 2 in 6A.

Hays High, now 12-0, jumped Lansing (No. 2) and Goddard Eisenhower (No. 3) in the polls. Lansing is 13-0, while Eisenhower is 12-0.

Rounding out the 5A poll is Topeka-Highland Park at No. 4, then Wichita Heights, Maize South, Salina Central, Mill Valley, Shawnee Heights and Kapaun Mount Carmel.

Wichita East (11-1) fell from No. 2 to No. 5 in Class 6A.

Hays High’s next game is Friday at Dodge City High School.
