WICHITA, Kan. (AP) -- A Kansas nurse convicted of defrauding and abusing the mentally ill residents of a group home she ran with her husband will return to court for resentencing.
U.S. District Judge Monti Belot set Monday as the new sentencing date in the servitude case of Linda Kaufman. She was convicted in November 2006 of forcing residents to work naked and perform sex acts, while billing the government and their families for it. Linda Kaufman and her husband, Arlan, videotaped the "nude therapy" sessions.
The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld their convictions, but sent her case back for resentencing.
A three-judge appeals panel ruled Belot should reconsider factors that could lengthen her seven-year prison term.
