DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) -- A Dodge City man has been bound over for trial in a shooting that killed one man and wounded another.
In a hearing Wednesday, an attorney for Sam Bonilla argued that Bonilla was defending himself and others when he shot the two men on Sept. 7 near downtown Dodge City.
Bonilla is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Steven Holt and attempted second-degree murder in the wounding of Tanner Brunson.
Holt, Brunson and three teenagers were riding a four-wheeler in the Arkansas River riverbed when a confrontation erupted with Bonilla.
Brunson said Bonilla shot Holt during an argument, then shot Brunson as he tried to run away.
But Bonilla's son and nephew testified that their father shot the men as they were walking toward him in a threatening manner.
