Diet, exercise key to Kan. couple

Eds: APNewsNow. Will be led.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- A Kansas couple married 61 years have a simple plan for feeling young.

It's diet and exercise.

80-year-old Joe Spradlin and his wife, 79-year-old Rita, have made fitness part of their routines. Joe bikes 20 to 30 miles a day, and Rita walks four to six miles a day.

Joe says his lengthy bike rides are good for his mental health, and he'll get little argument from doctors.

They say no one is too old to exercise and feel younger, recommending even simple walks as a way to forestall severe symptoms of aging.
