Santa arriving in downtown Lawrence Friday night

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- Lawrence is preparing for the annual arrival of Santa Claus.
He is expected to land at 6 p.m. Friday on the roof of Weaver's Department Store in the city's downtown.
Each year, fire crews use a ladder truck to "rescue" Santa from the roof.
Once on the ground, he will listen to the Christmas wishes of children and pose for pictures.
The event coincides with the holiday lighting ceremony.
