Fireworks blamed in Emmett blaze

Eds: APNewsNow.

EMMETT, Kan. (AP) -- Investigators say a boy playing with fireworks sparked a fire that destroyed three Pottawatomie County buildings.

The fire happened Friday afternoon in Emmett and required fire crews from Saint Marys, Onaga, Emmett and Havensville to help put out.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says a 13-year-old boy was trying to light a firework, but instead lit flammable liquids nearby. The fire spread quickly and burned through a residential building, a warehouse and a bar.

Chris Trudo with Pottawatomie County Emergency Management says no one was injured in the fire, although a family living in the residential building lost some of their pets and their home. The bar also was a total loss.
