Kan. man remains jailed for lawyering

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- A Topeka man held for three months for what the courts call illegal lawyering says he's being held hostage by the government.
David Martin Price has been in the Shawnee County jail since Aug. 6.
The 48-year-old Price and had asked the federal courts to order his release. But a federal judge rejected the request, ruling that the issues leading to Price's jailing are matters for the state courts, not the federal system.
The Kansas Supreme Court -- which cited Price for contempt -- has ordered him to remain behind bars until he agrees in writing not to give legal advice to others. Price contends he's broken no laws and his wife said he won't sign any agreement.
He tells the Topeka Capital-Journal that he will not sign anything that takes away his rights.
