K-State president: No improprieties with payment

Eds: APNewsNow. UPDATES with comments from president's presentation to regents.

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) -- Kansas State University's new president says none of the $845,000 in questionable payments identified in a state audit were improper.

But President Kirk Schulz said Thursday that the university has changed some of its business practices to avoid future questions.

Schulz presented a report to the Kansas Board of Regents, addressing the 13 questionable payments identified in an audit in June. Some of those payments went to football coach Bill Snyder and other officials.

He said the payments didn't appear to be adequately documented but had been accounted for.

Schulz said the university has a new conflict of interest policy for top administrators and its athletic department will no longer make loans to employees.
