Former Wildcat coach to be in Smith Center parade

SMITH CENTER -- The annual Old Settler's Day festivities will take place this weekend in Smith Center.

Most events take place at the Smith County Fairgrounds/Armory, the Smith Center High School auditorium and the Smith Center downtown district.

Events begin at 7:15 a.m. Saturday with registration for a heart health fun run and walk at the Smith County Hospital and continue through Sunday.

One big change this year, the start of the downtown parade has been moved forward an hour to 10 a.m. to accommodate the schedule of former Kansas State University head football coach Bill Snyder, who will participate in the parade.

Other Saturday events include a health fair, a quilt show, a craft fair, free lunchtime barbecue, a variety show at the high school and a dance from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. at Pooche's Bar and Grill.

A multi-denominational prayer service will be Sunday morning at 10:30.
