Downtown spa expands services north

A new hair salon in Hays intends to bring some of downtown Hays' culture north of Interstate 70.
Salon Diva, 4333 Vine, opened last week as the third branch of Dereama Allenbaugh's salon and spa services in the Hays area.
"We really want to get the art community, which we're very involved in, north of the interstate," Allenbaugh said.
Allenbaugh's Salon Ten-Oh-Seven, located at 1007 Main, traditionally has art displays and participates in the Hays Arts Council's Gallery Walks. Allenbaugh said she also hopes her newest salon will be known for its own artistic flair, specifically in dealing with color -- hair, cheek, eye and nail color, for example.
Salon Diva will focus on salon services, whereas Salon 1007 has both spa and salon offerings. Allenbaugh also owns Rock Haven Spa 1530 Smoky Hill River Road.
The opportunity for Allenbaugh to expand arose when Beond Salon and Day Spa closed in May.
"I always thought that had to be a dynamite location," Allenbaugh said. "When that space became available, it seemed just like a natural progression of our business."
Salon Ten-Oh-Seven had absorbed some of the displaced employees from Beond and now, some of those have been transferred to Salon Diva, along with a few new employees.
Salon Diva is not at capacity yet in terms of staff, Allenbaugh said, but she hopes eventually to be able to staff a double shift and stay open until 10 p.m.
"I would love to have a place where girlfriends, young moms still come in and get their hair color done," Allenbaugh said.
For now, Salon Diva is open Tuesdays through Saturdays and will be expanding its hours Tuesday and Thursday nights soon.
"We're gearing ourselves toward people who are busy juggling family and work," Allenbaugh said.
