Hays man sentenced on cocaine charges

Larry Dean Braun, 49, Hays, was sentenced to more than five years in prison Monday following an October conviction for the sale of cocaine and drug tax stamp violations.

Braun was sentenced to serve 64 months for the first two counts of the sale of cocaine. The sentences for the third count of sale of cocaine and three counts of drug tax stamp violation will be served concurrently.

"He'll have to serve through April of 2012 on his parole violation," Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees said. "Then he will start serving his sentence."

Drees said the earliest possible release date would be March of 2016.

Braun was paroled in January 2008 following convictions for the sale of marijuana in Ellis County and possession with the intent to sell marijuana in Gove County in 1999, Drees said. He also was convicted of attempted rape and felony domestic battery in 1998.
