Three NWKS students receive service academy nods

By The Hays Daily News

U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts recently released the names of numerous young Kansans who will receive his nomination for appointment to U.S. Service Academies.

Once nominated, the applicants must meet individual admission requirements of each academy. Appointments are limited; therefore, not every applicant receives an apppointment. Personal interviews, written applications, grade-point average and standardized test scores all are considered by a screening board for making the appointments.

The academies announce appointments in the spring. Those from the area receiving nominations were Eric Albers, Oakley, and Matt Helm, Norcatur, for the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., and Jared Hachmeister, Natoma, for the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
