TMP earns MCAA sweep at Hoisington

HOISINGTON -- The Thomas More Prep-Marian baseball team earned its first sweep of the season Friday.

The Monarchs (3-3) defeated Hoisington 9-1 in Game 1 and 4-1 in Game 2.

TMP now has won three straight after the starting the season with doubleheaders against Scott City and Garden City.

Senior Shane Zimmerman (1-2) earned his first victory of the season in the opener. He threw five shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five.

The Monarchs' offense handled Hoisington, posting 11 hits and drawing three walks.

Grant Romme, Jordan Gottschalk and Ryan Schippers led TMP at the plate.

Romme was 2 of 3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Gottschalked finished 3 of 3 with an RBI and run scored, and Schippers hit 3 of 4 with an RBI and two runs scored.

In Game 2, Cameron Brin (1-1) got his first win of the season, but had some troubles doing it. Brin lasted four innings, allowing an earned run on seven hits while striking out two.

TMP was out hit in Game 2, producing six hits to Hoisington's eight, but the Monarchs managed to score them when they had to.

Gottschalk drove in two runs and scored a run of his own on 2-of-4 hitting, and Schippers finished 2 of 4 at the plate.
