Hays goes from record high Monday to chance of snow today

Never mind Monday's record high of 74 degrees, there's a good chance for snow today.

How much might fall remains uncertain, although in the Hays area it's unlikely to be more than an inch, maybe even closer to a half-inch, according to the National Weather Service.

Elsewhere in northwest Kansas, there's a chance for more, perhaps as much as 1 to 3 inches of the white stuff.

That's all in stark contrast to Monday's record-setting day, when the daytime high jumped to 74 degrees, sending people outside in shorts and short-sleeve shirts.

It broke the old record of 72 degrees, set in 1931 and again in 1976.

Today's high is expected to be exactly half what Monday was, reaching only 37 degrees by day's end.

Wednesday should remain cold, with a gradual warming trend the rest of the week.
