Carol Ann (Wenger) Witt
Carol Ann (Wenger) Witt, 82, Great Bend, formerly of Oberlin, died Monday, April 30, 2012, in Great Bend.
She was born March 16, 1930, in Oberlin to Lewis and Elena (Carlson) Wenger. She attended Oberlin schools, graduating from Decatur Community High School in 1948. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University for a year.
She married Duane Witt on Aug. 2, 1950. Following college, she worked at Oberlin Lockers until getting married. Then she began her life in farming. She worked in the office on sale day at Oberlin Livestock Sale Barn for 17 years. She owned and operated Penn Avenue, a women's clothing store in Oberlin. After closing the store, she worked as a certified medical aide in Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Oberlin.
She loved music and loved to entertain with her beautiful voice in choirs, choruses and as a soloist at weddings and funerals.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, a former member of Faith Lutheran Church, Oberlin, of which she served on the church council and was a past president; a 55-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star; and a founding member of the Oberlin Music Club.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Mark and fiance, Barb Konrade, Great Bend; two daughters, Luan Taylor, Prairie Village, and Mary Jo Lohoefener and husband, Greg, Oberlin; six grandchildren, Ryan and Aaron (Nicole) Taylor, Leigh Ann (Clint) Johnson, Adam (Jeni) Lohoefener, Alec and Laura Witt, and Kinser Vonderfecht; and three great-grandchildren, Georgia and Van Taylor and Ella Lohoefener; relatives and friends including an aunt, Esther Carlson; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Wenger.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Aileen; and a brother, Virgil.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend; inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Oberlin Cemetery.
