Dr. James Andrew Willcox

Dr. James Andrew Willcox, 46, Hays, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, as a result of an automobile accident in rural Ellis County.

He was born Jan. 5, 1964, in McMinnville, Ore., to James Y. Willcox Sr. and Margie Tittle. He attended Sterling College and graduated with a biology degree in 1987. He later attended KU Medical School in Kansas City and Wichita, graduating in 1991.

He married Dawn Landis on Dec. 29, 1989. They were married almost 21 years.

He conducted his residency at University Hospital in Salt Lake City from 1991 to 1995, where he served as chief resident his final year. He practiced internal medicine at the VA Hospital in Wichita, private practice in Salt Lake City and most recently at Hays Medical Center as a hospitalist.

Survivors include his wife, Dawn K. Willcox, Hutchinson; his children, Emmi Willcox, Eliza Willcox, Ezekiel Willcox and Emarin Willcox; his father, James Y. Willcox, Oregon; his mother, Margie Lowe, Florida; and a sister, Heidi Dunford, Georgia.

Services will be 4 p.m. Sunday at Christ's Bible Church, Nickerson; private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Cline's Mortuary of Hays, 1919 E. 22nd, Hays, KS 67601, is in charge of services.

Memorials are suggested to his children's education fund in care of Dawn K. Willcox.
