Hermes J. Hitschmann


Hermes J. Hitschmann, 85, Odin, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at Great Bend Regional Hospital.

He was born March 3, 1927, in rural Barton County to Joseph E. and Emma (Reif) Hitschmann.

He married Valeda Moeder on Oct. 12, 1954, in Hoisington. He was a retired farmer and stockman. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Japan during World War II.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin, and Veteran of Foreign War Post No. 7428, Hoisington.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Ed Hitschmann and wife, Janet, Claflin, and Jim Hitschmann and wife, Michele, Hoisington; a sister, Helen Zecha, Fort Dodge; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Hitschmann, Emily Hitschmann, Ethan Hitschmann and Taylor Hitschmann.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Hitschmann and Clarence Hitschmann; and a sister, Lenora Meyeres.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Odin; burial in Holy Family Cemetery, Odin, with military graveside rites by VFW Post No. 7428 and American Legion Post No. 286.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. Thursday at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, Hoisington.

A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, followed by a rosary, both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Claflin Ambulance Fund or Holy Family Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral Home.
