Lawrence 'Larry' Frenzl


Lawrence "Larry" Frenzl, 84, Hays, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at his home.

He was born May 10, 1928, in Odin to Hugo and Matilda (Hoffner) Frenzl.

He married Edna Kolste on Aug. 29, 1952, in Bentonville, Ark.

He attended Odin Catholic School and worked as a superintendant with Reece Construction Co. in Scandia from 1949 through 1984, with two years leave to serve in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. He also worked at McClaren Ford, Hays Pathology Lab and Paul MacDonald Chevrolet before retiring in 1992.

He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Hays VFW.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Michael Frenzl and wife, Jane, Hays, and Ronald Frenzl and wife, Donna, Olathe; two daughters, Susan Miller and husband, Ken, Hays, and Betty Hrabe and husband, Kenny, Stockton; two brothers, Leo Frenzl and wife, Delores, Odin, and William "Bill" Frenzl, Great Bend; three sisters, Viola Meyeres, Hoisington, Gertrude Hickel, Claflin, and Dorothy Reif, Beaver; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joe, Frank and Gus; and two sisters, Teresa Wondra and Marie Meyeres.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hays; burial in the church cemetery.

Friends can call from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 1906 Pine, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church.

A parish vigil service will be at 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Hospice of Hays Medical Center in care of the funeral home.
