Willa Mae (Janssen) Zimmer
Willa Mae (Janssen) Zimmer, 60, Ness City, died Thursday, May 10, 2012, at her home.
She was born Aug. 25, 1951, in Beloit to William F. and Treva Marie Peters Janssen. She attended elementary school in Cawker City and was a 1969 graduate of Ness City High School.
She married Michael Edward Zimmer on Dec. 22, 1982, in Boulder, Colo. She was a master licensed electrician, the third female to be licensed in the state of Colorado. She was co-owner, secretary and treasurer of Zimmer Engine and Electrical Service Inc., and administrator of the William F. Janssen Scholarship Fund.
She was an accomplished local musician and performed as "Granny Z." In recent years, one of her greatest joys was frequently entertaining in area long-term care facilities. She adored her elderly fans as much as they adored her. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Ness City.
Survivors include her husband, of the home; a son, Mark (Zimmer) Lyon, Hays; a daughter, Maj. Chanda Marie Maneval, U.S. Army, and husband, Mark, Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, William "Bill" Janssen and wife, Shirley, Great Bend, and Gordon "Frank" Janssen and wife, Laurell, Hutchinson; two sisters, Billie Marie Backhaus and husband, Terry, and Karrie Kae "KK" Harper, all of Ness City; and two grandchildren, Evangeline Marie Tavoloni and Brandon Michael Lyon.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Celebration of life service and visitation will at 3 p.m. Saturday at the American Legion Club Room.
