OBERLIN -- The United Rebel Sprint Series continues to grow, and now drivers competing for national points during the 2012 season will have an extra incentive to push the pedal to the floor.

Craig Myers, owner of Myers Engine Service in Ness City, Kan., announced he is donating $3,500 to the national points fund in the URSS. That means the winner of the national title during the series' seventh season will take home at least a minimum of $2,000 for being tops in the series.

"Craig has been an absolutely huge asset to the series, not only with his lease program and motors but also everything else he does for the URSS," said series founder Rick Salem. "He's a huge reason for the way this series has been going forward."

Myers has been involved in the series for several years. His lease program allows drivers affordable, quality engines for fractions of the cost of buying a motor outright. Many drivers take advantage of the program yearly, and the motors have piloted drivers to some of the biggest wins in series history.

"When Rick approached me to see if I would come on board and help the series years ago, I was questionable at first. It was new and just getting started," Myers said. "Now, it's just gotten bigger and bigger."

Luke Cranston's engine from Myers' business propelled him to a $3,000 payout at last year's Belleville Nationals, and Kasey Beckham had the help of a Myers' powerplant en route to winning the fourth annual Wheatshocker Rebel Nationals at RPM Speedway in Hays -- a $2,000 payout.

Several other drivers have used Myers' products to reach victory lane as well.

"I've met so many people, great people in the series," Myers said. "They given me a lot of business and became friends, and I'm hoping to give something back to the series."

Salem said the additional money for the national fund is another boost to one of the largest sprint car series in the country.

"It's going to be a good deal," he said.

"We've always supported the region with contingency prizes, usually for the top 10," Myers said. "This year, we're trying to throw it at the national points. It's a little different scenario. Hopefully we'll see more and more guys support the national series."
