Two people were injured Monday afternoon when a driver going the wrong way attempted to turn around on Interstate 70.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, about 1:20 p.m., Alfred Koerner Jr., 81, Hays, was driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 westbound in the eastbound Exit 157 ramp when he tried to make a U-turn.
He was struck by a 2015 Chrysler 200 driven by Justin R. Mandy, 20, Helena, Mont., that was in the eastbound passing lane.
Mandy’s vehicle came to rest in the median, while Koerner’s vehicle stopped in the middle of both eastbound lanes of the interstate, according to the KHP report.
Koerner and a passenger, Patricia A. Hasenberger, 83, Hays, were taken to Hays Medical Center with possible injuries. Mandy was not injured, according to the report. All but Hasenberger were wearing safety restraints, according to the KHP.
