Three Ellis County residents were arrested Monday in connection with a narcotics operation conducted through the last two months by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and area law enforcement agencies that has netted over 40 arrests.

A release from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office said Thomas J. Grubb, 47, Crystal L. Hayes, 45, and Sandra K. Schutte-Finlay, 39, were arrested at 11:30 p.m. Monday by members of the Ellis County Drug Enforcement Unit with the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, Hays Police Department, Ellis Police Department and KBI.

Seven search warrants were issued in the Ellis County investigation. Officers seized methamphetamine, contraband, currency, weapons and vehicles. The three were booked into the Ellis County Jail.

At least 41 arrests have been made in the operation, according to a press release from the KBI. Arrests were also made in Cheyenne, Greeley, Logan Rawlins, Sherman, Thomas and Wallace counties in Kansas and in the Colorado counties of Cheyenne and Kit Carson, according the KBI.

The arrests were made in relation to the crimes of distribution of methamphetamine, distribution of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, multiple weapons violations and several other drug related crimes, according to the KBI.

The majority of those arrested are awaiting formal charges in Wallace County District Court, and more arrests are expected, according to the release.

Ellis County Sheriff Ed Harbin would not say if more arrests would occur in Ellis County.
