SALINA — A man and woman from Wichita have been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping, beating and robbing of a 69-year-old Hays man at a Salina hotel.

Capt. Paul Forrester of the Salina Police Department said Robert Roberts, 36, and Angel Adams, 21, were arrested after being stopped by a law enforcement officer in Sedgwick County in the victim’s 2000 Cadillac Seville.

Roberts was booked into the Saline County Jail. Adams is being held in Sedgwick County Jail in Wichita on Sedgwick County warrants for charges that include prostitution, according to the jail’s online inmate listing.

Forrester said Roberts was driving the man’s Cadillac when it was stopped Sept. 1 in Wichita, and Adams also was in the vehicle.

The two are accused of entering Larry Long’s hotel room in Salina on Aug. 22, beating him, robbing him and fleeing in his car.

Forrester said Long checked in at Red Carpet Inn about 2 p.m. Aug. 22. Between 2 and 6:20 p.m., four people entered his room and held him there for approximately two hours, beating him and taking his wallet, credit cards and keys to his car. His cellphone and a Samsung tablet computer were in the car.

Loss was estimated at $3,500.

Long suffered severe facial cuts and blackened eyes, Forrester said. He was transported to Salina Regional Health Center and treated in the emergency department.

Forrester said photographs from the hotel and a store at Central Mall where Long’s credit card were used were distributed statewide.

Information from an intensive supervision probation officer in Sedgwick County was used to identify Roberts and Adams.

Forrester said two more arrests are expected.
