Hays city officials are reminding residents annual outside watering restrictions will continue until the end of this month. Outside watering is banned between the hours of noon and 7 p.m.
Efficient use of water at all hours also is encouraged due to dry conditions. Water conservation specialist Holly Dickman said residents should check soil conditions before watering any outside vegetation.
If a stick or probe easily can be pushed into the ground, the soil is moist and might not require additional water. When watering, it's also best to "water deeply," allowing maximum root absorption rather than watering small amounts often, she said.
