TOPEKA — Former U.S. Sen. Bob Dole has been hospitalized for 10 days at Walter Reed Army Medical Center while doctors work to correct low blood pressure with medication, his office said Friday.
Spokeswoman Marion Watkins said the Kansas political titan was hospitalized Sept. 13 following a routine checkup. Dole wrote Friday on Twitter that he was thankful for prayers and joked that he hoped to “be home sipping a cosmo in a few days.”
Watkins said “we’re all optimistic” about his assessment.
“All things going well, he’ll be released in a matter of days,” Watkins said.
Through the Dole Foundation’s Twitter account, Elizabeth Dole asked for people to pray for the speedy recovery of her husband.
Earlier this month, President Donald Trump signed bipartisan legislation to honor the 94-year-old with the Congressional Gold Medal.
