An Iowa teenager was killed early Friday morning in a one-vehicle accident in Phillips County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Jacob Paul Roos, 19, Ashton, Iowa, lost control of his Ford F350 pickup while traveling westbound on U.S. Highway 36. 

The vehicle went left of center, striking a guardrail in the south ditch. The truck, which was pulling a trailer, continued traveling westbound in the ditch, hitting a creek embankment and coming to rest in the bottom of the creek.

The accident occurred at 5:30 a.m. Friday. Roos was pronounced dead at the scene and taken to a local mortuary. He was not wearing a seat belt.
