It has been confirmed an Old Chicago franchise has plans to renovate the former Golden Corral restaurant building at 383 W. Mopar and open a restaurant in Hays.
Aaron White, executive director of Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development, confirmed the news this morning.
"They'll be redoing the store. It will take a ton of interior and exterior renovations to make it look like an Old Chicago," he said.
White said he understands the developers plan to open the restaurant in the first or second quarters of next year.
Golden Corral closed Sunday evening. White noted Old Chicago is a restaurant chain that scored well on the coalition's annual community retail survey.
"It's a nice fit," White said.
Old Chicago restaurant menus include pizza, burgers, taproom fare and a large selection of craft beer.
