The Hays City Commission at Thursday's 6:30 p.m. work session will discuss possible acquisition of two tracts of land in the City of Hays' Smoky Hill wellfield.
The city has had lease sites for wells, monitoring wells and access easements since the field's development. Beginning with the wellfield reconfiguration in 2006, the city began buying out the leases in order to save money in the future.
There are only four leases remaining. Staff is recommending purchase of a 36.9-acre tract of property owned by Dinges Family Trust in the amount of $225,000 and 3.7 acres of land owned by Brandon and Brandi Zimmerman in the amount of $80,000.
Both tracts of property house a city well site. Funds would come from the city's water sales tax. The wellfield is located south of Hays near Schoenchen.
Other agenda items include:
• A new manager for the Fort Hays Municipal Golf Course Pro-Shop.
• Discussion of the city's proposed 2018 street maintenance program.
