The Hostetter-DeFries Family Endowed Cultural Event will bring back a hometown performer.

Brian Lewis, a world-renowned violinist and educator, will present “An evening with Brian Lewis” 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Fredrickson Chapel on the Ottawa University campus, 1001 S. Cedar St., Ottawa.

Lewis has performed in New York’s Carnegie Hall and Fisher Hall as well as with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s, according to a news release. He has been a featured recitalist all over the world.

He is the artistic director and faculty member of the Brian Lewis Young Artist Program in Ottawa. He is the son of Mary Jo Lewis, the founder and director of Ottawa’s Suzuki Strings program.

The Hostetter-DeFries Family Endowed Cultural Fund was established in 1999 by Ottawa University alumna Alice Jo (Hostetter) DeFries, the release said. The goal of the fund is to host guest speakers who have contributed significantly to the social, artistic and cultural improvement of society, the release said.
