Kayann Ausherman’s creativity gracefully travels from sweet craft to fine art.
I have been enthralled with her upcycled journals and cards for years. When making these journals, she incorporates vintage and found papers and old book covers. They appear randomly pieced together, but with Ausherman’s eye and sense of design, they are perfectly assembled.
Ausherman also creates larger works of art, paintings and collages with the same sensibilities as her crafts.
They often include found objects, old paint pieces, fabrics and paper. Her sense of design, color and imagery often borrows from the natural world, with quirky things thrown in to surprise you and to keep your eyes interested. She mixes bold colors with soothing brushstrokes and designs.
There is a sense of whimsy in much of her art. Her love of beauty and essence of play is evident in each piece.
Ausherman’s original paintings along with small works and prints, will be on display through December at Bluebird Books, Downtown Hutchinson.
