RUSSELL — Russell County Economic Development is offering two events to help residents learn more about forming a non-profit organization and value-added agriculture.

How to Start a 401(c)3 Non-profit will be offered at 7 p.m. Tuesday, while Farm Talk will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 23, both at the Dream Theater.

Both are free to the public, but registration is requested for both.

Janae Talbott, director of Russell County Economic Devlopment, said there has been an increased interest in applying for grants.

“You have to have the tax codes to apply for grants,” Talbott said. “This is an opportunity for people to learn how.”

A local accountant will administer the class.

The Farm Talk is a continuation of a series started last year, she said. The session Jan. 23 will discuss value-added agriculture.

It is directed at small, independent producers such as backyard gardeners interested in selling at farmers markets or even larger producers looking for markets for products like sunflowers or safflower, Talbott said.
