WaKEENEY — Charges have been filed against the retired chief of the Trego County Rural Fire Department.

According to a complaint filed in Trego County District Court, Larry Eberle is facing one count each of making false information and theft by deception. The complaint alleges that in December 2015, Eberle submitted a voucher to the county for $539 to be paid to him.

The charges allege the voucher was submitted with knowledge that it falsely states or represents some material matter or is not what it purports to be and was done with the intent to defraud, obstruct the detection of a theft of felony offense or to induce official action.

Larry Eberle is the brother of Terry Eberle, the former WaKeeney Police chief who is facing charges of intimidation of a witness, blackmail, harassment by telephone, tampering with public records, attempted interference with law enforcement, two counts of theft, two counts of perjury and eight counts of making false information.

A first appearance for Larry Eberle is scheduled for 2 p.m. Feb. 6.

Terry Eberle is scheduled for arraignment and a motion hearing at 9 a.m. Monday. He also will make a first appearance for the perjury and false information charges at that time.
