SCHOENCHEN — An outbuilding in Schoenchen was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.
The Ellis County Fire Department Co. 8, based in Schoenchen, was dispatched to a fire at 212 N. Front shortly after 4 a.m. A neighbor to the property reported the fire.
Upon arrival, crews found an outbuilding, tree and some debris on the ground all on fire, according to a media release from Ellis County Fire Chief Darin Myers.
Fire crews used two fire attack lines to extinguish the fire. The building was a total loss.
The cause of the fire was undetermined after investigation.
Fire crews stayed on scene until 6:05 this morning to extinguish hot spots. A tree was cut down due to the fire, which caused hot spots extending to the top of the tree that could not be extinguished.
A total 19 of Ellis County firefighters responded from Schoenchen, Hays, Ellis and Victoria. Ellis County EMS, Ellis County Sheriff's Office and the Hays Fire Department responded to assist.
