WALKER — A semi and trailer rolled near the Walker exit on Interstate 70 early Wednesday morning, causing a temporary detour for some travelers.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Marvin E. Shiever, 76, Winfield, was driving a 2006 International semi towing two trailers westbound on I-70 less than a mile west of the Walker exit just after 6 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, the truck entered the median.

Shiever overcorrected his steering, according to the report, crossed over the westbound lanes and struck the guardrail. The truck rolled onto the driver’s side, coming to rest facing east.

The westbound lanes were closed and traffic routed to Old U.S. Highway 40 for a few hours. Shiever was taken to Hays Medical Center with possible injuries. He was wearing a safety restraint, according to the KHP.
