TOPEKA — The Hays Daily News took home eight first-place awards Saturday at the Kansas Press Association Awards of Excellence and annual convention at Capitol Plaza Hotel in Topeka.
The HDN took home 29 honors for first- through third-place awards.
The newsroom gathered seven first-place awards. Kaley Conner won first in the religion story category, and Jolie Green won first for general news and spot news photography.
Nick Schwien took first in investigative story, series and best story/picture combination.
The news staff also won first in design and layout excellence, and advertising rep Joleen Fisher took first in best entertainment ad.
Members of the HDN combined for eight second-place honors and 13 third-place awards.
