COLBY — Two people were injured in a crash Monday afternoon on the interstate near Colby.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Judy Kaye Bontjes, 63, Colby, was westbound on Interstate 70 approximately 4 miles east of Colby just after 4 p.m. when she fell asleep.

Her 2009 Toyota Corolla struck a 2001 Dodge Dakota driven by Tina Penelope Kehl, 48, Bird City.

The Toyota went into the median, where it came to a stop. The Dodge came to a stop on the right shoulder.

Kehl and her passenger, John Medrano, 52, Kirk, Colo., were taken to Citizens Medical Center, Colby, with possible injuries. Bontjes, who was wearing a safety restraint, was not injured.

The KHP report did not indicate if Kehl and Medrano were using safety restraints.
