COLBY — Strong winds contributed to a crash Tuesday morning that sent a Nebraska truck driver to the hospital.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2006 Kenworth semi was northbound on U.S. Highway 83 approximately a half-mile north of Rexford just after 10 a.m. Tuesday when strong winds forced its trailer into the east ditch, rolling the semi onto its passenger side.

Driver Scott W. Schrodt, 49, Geneva, Neb., was taken to Citizen’s Medical Center, Colby, with possible injuries. He was wearing a safety restraint, according to the KHP.

The semi and trailer were to be removed from the scene today due to the high winds Tuesday.
